Several teens have been severely injured over the last several days after attempting a dangerous new variation of the ice bucket challenge. The new challenge, which teens are calling the boiling water challenge, is the latest fad in a growing number of potentially deadly and recklessly stupid made for the internet stunts involving serious risk to life and safety.
The challenge originated as a prank video shot by several youth who work at the McDonalds in DeQuincy, La. The teens filmed their production in the walk in cooler to make it appear that the water, which was presented via editing as having been boiled, would steam after being dumped on one of the pranksters. After the water was dumped on the teen (identified in the video as Rob) he convincingly acted as if the experience was painful, but that he was tough enough to handle it. The video ended with Rob looking into the camera and asking “are you a man enough to take it?”.
